Giacomo Conterno - One of Barolo's Best

Giacomo Conterno - One of Barolo's Best

Giacomo Conterno is without doubt one of the most legendary producers in Piemonte and in all Italy! The estate is family-run since the early 1900s, and is famous for producing some of the best Barolos out there. Ever since the family started making wine, they focussed on reaching the highest quality possible. So step-by-step, they acquired the top vineyards in Barolo, for example Cascina Francia in the 70s (which is their flagship vineyard today) and plots of Cerreta in 2009.

From perfect grape material, the family makes both Barolo (but only in satisfactory vintages) and its "little brother" Barbera d'Alba, which is approachable at younger ages. Giacomo Conterno is one of the last champions of old-school Barolo winemaking - long maceration times and not too much oak to avoid the wines becoming vanilla bombs. The wines go perfectly with Northern Italian food like truffles, game or heavy meat sauces.

Today, the wines of Giacomo Conterno are insanely rare and sought-after, as the world realizes their exceptional depth and complexity, as well as their extreme longevity.
